Housing Plus Group is committed to creating more opportunities and rewarding careers for apprentices.
Joey Pennick joined us as an apprentice in 2019. Now, he’s completed his apprenticeship, gained a Distinction in his Level 3 Association of Accounting Technicians qualification and landed a permanent position in our team.
Joey’s learning took place online, so his studies could continue in the pandemic and he showed fantastic self-motivation to keep learning while he and his colleagues were working remotely. That determination paid off, when he completed the course.
“I really wanted to do well but I was surprised to get a distinction!”
The apprenticeship gave Joey an insight into a variety of roles within the finance team. When a vacancy arose for a ledger assistant, he was ready to apply.
His manager Pete Russell says:
“Joey already had experience as well as a professional qualification and a wide understanding of the role of our team and the work of the Group. I think his success underlines the value of apprenticeships.”
Joey loves his new role. “I enjoy working in an environment where we make a positive difference and see the results. When I go out and spot one of our homes, it feels good.”
