Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025

This week (10 – 16 February) we’ve been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by taking the opportunity to recognise the hard work, dedication and incredible contribution apprentices make to our organisation.

Over 100 employees at Housing Plus Group are currently completing an apprenticeship, with some colleagues joining us as apprentices and other colleagues using apprenticeships to gain skills for life.

This week, we’ve shared stories from Electrical Apprentice Rosie and Plumbing Apprentice Simone, who are encouraging more women in trades and acting as great role models for the next generation. Read their stories, here.

We also caught up with Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group’s ‘Apprentice of the Year 2024’, Rohan. Rohan works in our Electrical Team and told us how the Group has supported him to complete his apprenticeship 6 months ahead of schedule. Hear what he had to say, in the video below.

On Wednesday, our very own Chief Executive Wayne Gethings gave us an insight into his own career journey. Starting in housing as a Plumbing and Gas Apprentice, Wayne had some great advice for our current cohort. Hear from Wayne, here

Our colleagues who are using apprenticeships to upskill were in the spotlight, too, with James, Customer Experience Officer, Charlotte, Care Manager, and Sam, Director of Housing, all sharing how Higher Level apprenticeships are helping them to further their careers. Read more, here.

Finally, we rounded off the week by holding a special breakfast to celebrate our Apprentices.

Jan Lycett, Executive Director of Integration and Change, attended the event and said “Housing Plus Group is committed to providing more opportunities for our employees and being a great place to work.

“It has been great to shine a spotlight on our apprentices, this week, and to hear how the Group is already supporting them to gain skills for life and further their careers.”
