Homes Plus grant helps charity support the community and protect the environment

A valuable community resource in Stafford that is helping both local charities and the environment has received a welcome boost from Homes Plus.

Rehome and Repurpose is the latest organisation to benefit from our Homes Plus My Community Fund, and now the registered charity’s recycling hub in Castlefields is fully equipped to help a range of other worthy causes.

Thanks to the donation, it has been able to purchase clothing rails, signage, computer software, office equipment and a host of marketing materials that will help its volunteers raise cash for other local charities, including Staffordshire Women’s Aid, House of Bread, and Hearts & Hands Stafford.

At the same time, Rehome and Repurpose is now able to step up its efforts to encourage local residents to reduce waste and recycle clothes and other household items that would otherwise be destined for landfill or incineration.

Kevin Davies, Head of neighbourhoods for Homes Plus, commented: “The charity offers a shining example of volunteers coming together to find a practical way to help protect the environment while supporting vulnerable members of their community.

“This initiative is something we are very proud to support as it fits so well with our own values and mission to make a positive difference to homes, lives and communities in the areas we serve.”

As well as accepting donations of almost any household goods, including clothes, shoes, bric-a-brac and small electrical items, the hub is also home to a charity shop where people can pick up a bargain.

It also has a community garden, run entirely by volunteers that grow seasonal fruit and vegetables, enabling local residents to spend time with others who are interested in gardening – helping to tackle loneliness and isolation.

Justine Dicesare, Rehome and Repurpose Manager, added: “A huge thank you to Homes Plus for the funding that has allowed us to continue our charitable projects and help our local community.”

The My Community Fund, delivered in partnership with Jewson and Efficiency East Midlands Limited (EEM), supports grass-roots organisations in Staffordshire and Shropshire. Local charities and voluntary groups can apply for grants online at: homesplus.co.uk/help-and-advice/the-my-community-fund/
