Apprentice Nathan dives in and skillfully fits new bathroom

Multi-trade apprentice Nathan recently finished his first solo project

Nathan joined the Property Plus team as a multi-trade apprentice in September 2018. He recently fitted his first new bathroom under the watchful eye of experienced colleague, Steve who has worked for the organisation for over 2 years.

“I have always wanted to learn a skill and work in the building trade.” explains Nathan. “So, after leaving Meole Brace School I was delighted to secure this apprenticeship which has enabled me to work in a job that I really love.

“I attend college every Monday and spend the rest of the week putting into practice newly learned skills in our customers’ homes.”

When asked which part of his job he enjoyed the most, Nathan said, “I like fitting new bathrooms and more recently I’ve learned how to plaster, which is a great skill to have. I’m hoping that I impress enough to secure a permanent position with the team when my apprenticeship ends next year.”

The bathroom that Nathan fitted was for Severnside customer, Mr Ellis.

“I had no idea that Nathan was an apprentice when he fitted our lovely new bathroom.” said Mr Ellis. “He always looked like he knew what he was doing and was very competent and polite.”

“It’s so important that apprenticeships are available to get our youngsters into work and help them get on the career path they want to follow.”

Bathroom fitter Steve who supervised during the project and acted as Nathan’s labourer said:

“Nathan listened to everything I told him and took it all on board.

“It’s vitally important that we offer apprenticeships to young people as it offers them an opportunity to learn a trade.  It also allows us to pass on our knowledge and skills, which is something I really enjoy.

“At the end of the project I felt proud of Nathan and also pleased with myself for sharing my time and expertise.”

The Group couldn’t agree more with Mr Ellis and Steve’s views on helping young people find their purpose in life, which is why we have pledged to create 100 new apprentice opportunities over the next few years for young people just like Nathan.
